India Did Not Grab Cape Town, Lost To South Africa by 72 Runs

SA beat India by 72 runs

Test cricket at its best at Newlands in Cape Town when the world’s no 1 team meet world’s no 2. The epic counter between India and New Zealand in the first test of the series goes in favour of home team South Africa.

India needs to chase 208 runs to win the test and take the important lead in three-match series. But any total is not so easy against the quality and lethal pace bowling attack which consists of Morne Morkel, Philander and Rabada and that too on the pacy and bouncy pitches of South Africa. Indian batsmen look like a minnow in both innings, except the Hardik Pandya’s first inning 93 runs.

After winning the toss, South Africa skipper du Plessis opted to bat first. Indian bowlers responded well and South Africa lost three wickets on just 12 runs. Then counter attack from great ABD put South Africa in some control and at last, South Africa score 286 runs in their first inning. In response, Indian batting not survives against the quality attack of SA. They were 92-7 at one stage but Hardik Pandya 93 help India to reach 209 runs in the first inning.

With 77 runs lead in the first inning, SA certainly has upper hand. But soon Indian bowlers fire with aggressive line and length and thrash South African batsmen and bundle out them on just 130 runs in the second inning.

Now India needs 208 runs to win the first attack, but Indian batting again fails to survive and all out on 135 runs and lost the match by 72 runs. Philander takes 6 wickets in the second inning and 9 in the match and so won the Man of the Match award.

Now South Africa lead the series by 1-0 and the second test will start from 13th January at Centurion. India needs to correct their mistakes fast especially their batsmen otherwise whitewash will not far away.
