Sri Lanka survived defeat in the first test at Kolkata but it was never the case in the second test. India dominates the Nagpur test in all segments and beat Sri Lanka by an inning and 239 runs.
It was India’s bowling performance in the first inning which allowed Sri Lanka to score only 205 runs and then comes the long Indian batting which breaks the Sri Lankan morale.
Firstly Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara put 200 runs partnerships for the 2nd wickets and then comes the Indian run machine Virat Kohli. After hundred from Pujara and Vijay, Kohli leads the team along with Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli hits his fifth double hundred in the test cricket. He also hits a 10th century in this calendar year and become the first captain to score 10 century in a calendar year. After Kohli’s heroic performance, it was Rohit Sharma who punishes Sri Lankan bowlers.
Four Indian batsmen score centuries in the first inning of India and eventually, India declare at 610 runs after losing 6 wickets. Rohit Sharma remains not out at 102 runs.
With 610 on the scoreboard, India takes 405 runs lead in the first inning. Sri Lanka does not see in the competition in the second inning. They didn’t even fight against the Indian bowlers and bowled out at 166 runs in the second inning.
Ashwin takes 4 wickets in the second inning of Sri Lanka. For Sri Lanka, only their captain Chandimal score fifty plus score and no other batsmen able to spend time on the crease.
With this win, India goes 1-0 up in the three-match series with one test still to play in the series. The third test will be played at Feroz Shah Kotla Delhi on 2nd December.
