The day 4 of the boxing day test in Melbourne ended with the rain and now the game move to the fifth day of the test match. Australia still needs 61 runs to take any lead in their second inning.
But it was Alastair Cook who single handly keep Australia out of the game and ensure no series wash for Australia and also bring England on the verge of victory in the fourth Ashes test.
Australia already won the three test and thus win the Ashes too. But it was Cook’s effort which put England in a position to win the match and earn some pride after three humiliating loss in the first three test of the series.
In response to Australia’s 327 runs in the first inning, England put 491 in their first inning and so takes an important lead of 164 runs. Australia, in their second inning, lost Bancroft and Khawaja cheaply. But Warner and captain Steven Smith ensure no further damage to Australian team before rain interrupts the match on day 4.
On day 5, England desperately wants to take Warner and Smith early on while Australia needs both their overnight batsmen to continue as long as possible in order to avoid any possible defeat.
England Chris Woakes said that England will focus on the reverse swing on day 5 of Melbourne test.
